(http://www.sacredcenters.com/chakras.html) You are a living rainbow of energy and light!
There are many exquisite portrayals of the energy chakras from ancient times, showing beautifully colored flowers overlaying the body. Each flower has a different number of petals and corresponds to a different vibrational energy center in the body.
Other traditions show the centers as wheels of light, others as rays of light. I like to think of my chakras as flower bud shaped energy centers that can twirl open as a bud unfolds and flowers in the morning light, and twirl closed in the twighlight as the plant goes to sleep.
The body has literally thousands of individual energy points, but for simplicity I will deal with the 7 major chakras, their representative colors, locations, related gland and what they are doing in your body for you. I will also cover a few other chakras that are of great use to women in general for creatively communicating with their environment and spirituality.
Lets take a look at the Rainbow of light:
1st--Crown Chakra—White—Pineal Gland--Just above the top of the head where the center fontanel existed as an infant. This is the many petaled lotus chakra and represents our divine interaction with spirituality. This is the center of peace and enlightenment. It is the highest vibrational chakra in the physical body, and it directs communication with our soul and with the universal consciousness. When you feel at one with the universe and divine love is coursing through your body, this is where it is coming through.
2nd--Brow Chakra or Third Eye Chakra—Purple—Pituitary Gland--Between the eyebrows two finger widths above the brow bone, this is the chakra of psychic vision, precognition and prophesy. This is the center of extra-sensory energy interpretation, which is an ability all human beings have to varying degrees. When you feel de ja vu, have prophetic dreams of read someones thoughts, you are using your inner vision through this energy center. The more you believe it is possible, the more you acknowledge these insights, the stronger your psychic muscle will get.
3rd--Throat Chakra—Blue—Thyroid Gland--Directly on the adams apple, at the center of the throat is the throat chakra. This is the chakra for speaking your voice and communicating your truth. It is also the chakra that helps you in your desire making changes in your life. If you find you are stifling your emotions and not telling others how you feel about things, you will have a feeling of closing off in this chakra as if you have a sore throat, or feel a huge “lump” in your throat when you are not allowing your emotions their natural flow through your body and are swallowing your feelings. Release of the emotions or a speaking of your truth will immediately release these blocks. When you are public speaking, standing up for your beliefs or trying to create compromise in your life, you are using the energy of this chakra.
Alter Major Chakra—Brown—This chakra is located on the BACK of your neck above your shoulder blades and it is the only chakra that opens up to the back of the body and spins in opposition to the other chakras. This is the chakra that “has your back” and if you listen to its signals it will literally give you “eyes in the back of your head”. This chakra will speak to you as hairs standing up on the back of your neck when something unwanted is impending. It will also speak to you as a miraculous opening and tingling as if your angel wings are spreading when you come into direct contact with divine energy in the form of spirit guides, guardian angels or earthly spirits. It will also flair remarkably when you come into contact with a soul mate or someone who will make a strong emotional connection with you and who is meant to promote spiritual growth within you.
4th—Heart Chakra—Pink OR Green—Thymus Gland and Lungs--Certain traditions view heart energy as pink, others, in line with the physical spectrum of light, place the chakra energy as green. You can choose which feels best for you when visualizing this amazing heart center. It is located a hand width below the collar bone notch directly between the breasts, and it is the center of romantic and emotional love and attachment. This is where you feel love of family, romantic love, love of self and universal love and acceptance. The heart chakra has the amazing ability to send forth energy cords that will connect directly with the heart chakras of those you love, almost like an energy umbilical chord that connects you always. These bonds can be balanced and go both ways, or they can go one way if another is not sending love in return, which can be very depleting. The heart bonds can also be broken when you separate emotionally from a love—and this is why it hurts so much to have a broken heart because the heart bonds are being severed and energy is leaking out of them. In a later chapter, I will discuss ways to evaluate heart bonds and tools to keep them healthy, or heal them if they are no longer serving you.
Xiphoid Process-Lower Heart Chakra—muddy pink or green—Directly on the physical xiphoid process which is the very tip of the sternum, suspended directly below the ribcage connection and near the diaphragm, this is the lowest of the heart chakras and it is the center of personal guilt. You may find that even to touch this tiny protrusion brings you pain because there is so much negative energy, disappointment and personal and familial guilt focused there. This is the place where every negative comment, every “should have” every “must do” and every “not good enough” will settle into your body. Whenever you feel not good enough or guilty about anything, you feel that “sinking feeling in your stomach” and that’s the xiphoid process speaking. The minute you release these negative emotions that are holding you back, with full knowing through your soul that you are wonderful just the way you are and that the universe is unfolding your life with you exactly as it should, that area becomes filled with love and light for you and no one will be able to make you feel guilty again for not being who THEY want you to be. I will discuss ways of clearing this area in a subsequent chapter.
5th—Solar Plexus—Power Chakra—Yellow—Pancreas, Liver and Abdominal Organs--Directly under the the xiphoid process and diaphragm, you can feel this chakra when you place your palm below your breasts on the top of your tummy. This is the center of your PERSONAL power. This is where YOU are shining like the sun, as it is the center of your personal identity. This is where you are drawing fortitude and motivation and gumption and a feeling of being invincible. This is where you are feeling you are all powerful and you are goddess and can make anything happen in your world. The solar plexus is also a highly evolved energy interpreter and is the center of your intuition. When you have butterflies in your stomach, or feel sick to your stomach, it is both times, your solar plexus speaking to you because it is reading the vibrational energy of what is about to come into your life and it is sending you a strong signal—by dumping adrenalin into your solar plexus chakra and body—whether what is to come is beneficial or not. This is what people are talking about when they say “listen to your gut” or you have a “gut feeling about something or someone”. When the solar plexus speaks, do not second guess by thinking with your intellect. If you trust it and listen to its guidance, it will continue to strengthen into a very powerful tool for you to read your environment and your immediate future. When energy is low in other chakras, you can always draw forth the energy in the solar plexus chakra to energize the other chakras, and I will be discussing that process in another chapter.
6th—Sacral Chakra—Navel Chakra—Orange—Reproductive Organs--Directly below the belly button, in the center of your abdomen, above your uterus is the Sacral Charka. This is the center of your sexual energy, the center of your powerful emotions and the center of the balance between your masculine and feminine aspects, as depicted through the ying/yang symbol. This is also the center for self acceptance. Oriental traditions also place the Hara in this area which is the center of chi or life energy and a receptacle for prana, which is the divine life force given to humans through the breath. When you feel sexual arousal, sexual bonding, chemistry or magnetism, you are feeling it with this very powerful chakra. This is the center of the Divine Feminine and creativity and is representative of amazing power and unlimited potential. When you honor your creative side and allow that to flow into your life, you are using energy from this chakra, whether it is creating a beautiful painting or a beautiful baby, it is the center of all physical creation on earth. This is also the center where you will feel and send out strong emotions, such as anger and rage. It is a chakra most in need of balancing, because the energy can get very high and you can feel agitated. This is why its important to honor your sexual needs and also balance your emotional reactions to situations by releasing and balancing the energy in this chakra, which I will discuss in a later chapter. This is also the chakra where you can come into communication with your masculine side. The soul is neither masculine nor feminine, but contains aspects of both. It is very beneficial for a woman to be able to access masculine aspects of herself so she can feel her power and own her sexuality.
7th—Root Chakra—Ground Chakra—Red—Organs of Elimination and Adrenal Glands--Located at the tip of your tail bone or coccyx and expressing energy through your perineum (area directly below the vaginal opening and above the anus) and clitoris this is your center of physical grounding. This is the lowest vibrational chakra and deals with primal life issues, such as survival, reproduction (it is the male sexual chakra), comfort and stability. This is also the home of the Kundalini energy, represented by the caduceus or snake, which is the ancient marriage between the goddess Shakti (creativity energy) and Shiva (intellectual energy). When you are connected through your root chakra, you are connected to the earth and you feel stable and grounded, drawing earth energy up through that chakra, which combines with the divine energy coming into the crown chakra, and you are centered and completely at peace and comfortable with where you are. If you have issues with stability, feeling safe, “having your head in the clouds” or an inability to focus on the maintenance aspects of life, you may need to work on root chakra energy, which we will discuss in a later chapter.
Palm and Sole Chakras—These chakras are represented by symbols and not colors and are located in the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. The hand chakras are represented by all-seeing eyes at the center of the palms and the feet chakras by roots going deeply into the ground. These chakras are energy senders and receivers. The right palm is generally used to send energy out and the left palm is generally drawing energy in for interpretation by the solar plexus. Whenever healers lay on hands, they are using these very sensitive and powerful chakras to detect energy shifts in the body and to send healing energy and light into the body. Individuals who practice Reiki and other body work utilize these chakras. The sole chakras are used to ground the body, literally sending energetic roots down into the earth. They keep a physical being from ascending into a higher spiritual level too rapidly, allowing a gentle transformation, as increased spiritual energy can be quite uncomfortable for the body before the body is ready for the new level. Acting like anchors, they also provide security to the physical body on the earthly plane. The sole chakras also aid the intuition by gauging the new arena a physical body is walking into—they test the water, test the thickness of the ice, and make sure the ground is stable. Did you ever wonder how your feet could be so sensitive to what you are walking over even through thick soled shoes? It is because the Sole chakras are reading the energy and assisting the nerve endings in the feet to get a better picture of you path.
Once you know that the chakras exist and a bit about what they represent in the body, you can take the next step and feel the chakra energy for yourself. Sit quietly in a comfortable position at a time you will not be disturbed. Have the environment comfortably warm and wear loose clothing or naked if you choose to be so. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths through your nose and out of your nose and get into a state of relaxation. Take your hands and rub them together vigorously in front of your face and feel the warmth in the palms of your hands. Take your right and and place it parallel to your body about 2-3 inches away and run it slowly from the very top of your head down the midline of your body to your pelvis and between your legs to your tailbone. You can also run your hand down the back of your neck, down your spine and to your tailbone if you are flexible. You will notice definite warm spots in the air above those chakra points that we have discussed. This is your chakra energy coming out and interacting with the environment and the universals energy. Some chakras will feel warmer than others, and these are the chakras that are most highly active in your body. You can make a note of which chakras are warmer and then go back and see if there are any corresponding issues you are dealing with in your life related to those chakras. You may even have a corresponding health challenge related to the glands that are governed by those chakras that are cooler or less active. It is wonderfully comforting to know that by flowing energy through the chakras and focusing your desire, using the law of attraction that you can facilitate change in any area of your body and energy system.
You can also play with opening and closing the chakras. Sit as you were and rub your hands together vigorously, then repeat the process of running the hand parallel to the body until you find an energy center. When you have located a center, close your eyes and set your focus on that area and imagine it as either the eye of a camera lense or a flower bud furled closed—then, IMAGINE that the camera lens is opening or the flower bud is unfurling open—the chakras open up towards the right of the body, and you may feel a definite opening or surge in energy in that area. You can then close the chakra to the left of your body and sense the disconnection from outward energy flow. Try this a few times with the different chakras, always imagining them at their perfect position when you move away from them to practice on another chakra.
There are many wonderful teachers who discuss chakras, chakra cleansing, balancing and other details. Please do an internet search to gain further insight into this amazing energy system that is working for your body and soul every day!
